A Guide to Dancing with Others (while practicing with desire)
One of the most frequent questions we get is, “How do I dance with other people?” Or “What do I do if someone wants to dance with me?” This 40-minute talk walks you through the basics of initiating dances, communicating consent and boundaries, dancing with others, and leaving dances—all while exploring what arises in dancing with others as a practice for working with the embodied and relational complexity of desire. Whether you love dancing with others because it feels good and you recognize the rich complexity it offers, or you go to dances just to be around people but not dance, and whether you're very comfortable dancing or feel like a complete beginner, there are resources for you. The talk examines what it means to understand desire as a central force in shaping our dances and how we, as individuals and communities, can become a little wiser about it.
